The Flight Operations Centre
The way we operate at Virtual WestJet is quite simple. Our attitude in the sky is fun and friendly. We always operate in a safe yet sophisticated manner. The fundamental belief of our organization is that you simply develop your own fun while flying. It is your prerogative to create as much, or as little realism as you perfer. When you operate in a realistic manner, especially while flying online, you
stand out among your peers and you will pleasantly enjoy the thought that you are creating a unique atmosphere for not only Virtual WestJet, but for others as well.
The Operations Center is where you can find all resources you need in order to conduct a realistic flight. Find flight information as well as checklists, manuals, charts, and even a route map for your convenience in this section of your website.
Be sure to use the preferred routes, especially when flying online, which can be found in our schedule section. We also highly encourage you to use the real flight number in your online flying, although at this time it is not a policy but a mere recommendation. In the future, however, it is very likely this will be a Virtual WestJet policy.
Below are lista of websites that may be of some use to create an even better experience when flying online. NavCanada, and MyAirplane have plenty of information available to help you along your way.
The civil navigation service of Canada, or NavCanada, can provide you with current weather. Try not to limit yourself to just using the METAR service, instead, look at what else the site has to offer. All of it free of charge, of course. Find information about forecasts, winds aloft, NOTAMs, even PIREPS from pilots. Essentially you could browse for hours looking through all the data, so it would be a
good thing to develop a quick routine to get everything you need before you start flying.
If you fancy trans border flights to the United States, then have a look at MyAirplane.com. When planning to fly to the states, and when connected on Vatsim it is a good idea to study your charts carefully. While online, you might notice that US airport have a great deal of buzz near the vicinity of major airports. The last thing you want to put yourself into is an unfamiliar airspace without any knowledge of your arrival or departure. Flying into some of WestJet's destinations in the states can be quite exhilarating but the surrounding airspace can be somewhat complex.
Create.
It's your world, make the most of it and create something spectacular. You call the shots; you create the realism. Just don't forget to have fun while you plan your next flight.
