The big shots

Darcy Broda
Founding member, Chief Virtual Officer
Darcy Broda

Yeah Baby! That's a WestJet lanyard around my neck. Such a delight to have—I never lose my keys anymore. Another simple case of Lanyard Complex.

A relatively young flight simmer, Darcy has been at it since 2002 shortly before he was diagnosed with cancer. After experiencing what is called "CARE" from WestJet on a frequent basis, Darcy became a true believer in WestJet. During the summer of '04, a redesign of this website was completed and shortly thereafter Virtual WestJet took flight with interest from WestJet Airlines. Through hundreds of hours of hard work and effort, the new website excited WestJet to offer a license agreement and a promising new relationship began.

In the late spring of 2005, Darcy was appointed to Executive Vice President. He then assumed the role of President and CVO in late summer 2005 as part of a sucsession plan.

After finishing university with a degree in business, he now works in the financial services industry.

Darwin Treichel
Director of Technical Standards—Flight Operations
Darwin Treichel

If you've never been on a tour with Darwin, you've never been on a tour.

Darwin started flying for Virtual Westjet in September 2004; however, his interest in aviation stated at about age 5 while sitting in his classroom and day dreaming. His school and house were right under the final approach to a RCAF air base. The constant procession of Lancaster's, Mustangs , Harvard's, and B25s kept his mind out of the classroom and up in the air.

He has spent his virtual aviation career with Virtual WestJet, and Delta Virtual Airlines. Since starting his flight simulation hobby in 1997, he has logged over 5,500 virtual hours mostly in commercial heavy metal of which over 2,800 hours have been at the pointy end of a B737.

Outside of virtual aviation, Darwin spends a lot of time at WestJet. He has been in the industry since 1971 and is currently a member of the WestJet Safety Services team with the position of Safety Advisor. Darwin has also completed the Transport Canada flight dispatcher program.
